Think Good Thoughts for Dawnie
I am terrified for little Dawnie. She doesn't seem to be responding readily to her treatment. She is so sore she can barely move. Founder (rotation, laminitis, etc.) is a horrible thing....sometimes once it starts, it can't be stopped. That's the overriding concern here. I can tell that Doc isn't very optimistic. His words yesterday: "Jim, sometimes we don't have the success like we've had with Moose. Sometimes, we don't have any success."
We're doing everything humanly possible, though.....shooting her meds straight down her throat, rather than putting them in her food - that guarantees she gets every bit of 'em. Isoxuprine. SMZs. MSM. I'm giving her Equiiox rather than bute because the taste of bute drives her up the wall. I have to take off her special booties again today & paint the bottom of her feet with icthamol, wrap them up again & put the booties back on. When we did this on Wednesday, she was so painful on her right fore that I had to tranquilizer her with a cc of domorsodan. I have another syringe ready for this morning, too.
I said a prayer last night to the Four Directions using the eagle feather, the most powerful Medicine. I asked the East for Father Sun to keep the fire in her spirit & to light our way. I asked the South - Mother Nature - to weave her immutable magic to help little Dawnie & all of us to see our way through this. And for the birds to keep singing their soothing & optimistic songs to her. I asked the West to provide the nourishing qualities of water to wash away the ravages that are hurting her. And I asked the North to keep blowing the air into her lungs & for its breezes to clear all of our heads & enable us to think clearly in our quest to help her.
The next 2-3 days are crucial.
Please. Good thoughts for little Dawnie.
