Lucky Horse Casino was let go at 1:00 this afternoon. He will be missed.
Casino had the sweetest face and the most gentle soul of any horse I have ever known.
He was a blessing to everyone who knew him.
Casino was shipped to slaughter, went down in the truck, was rejected by the plant, and returned to the lot. He was brought to us by Heidi and joined our merry herd on October 17, 2006. We thought that his time with us would be short, he was in such horrible shape. My husband thought we should name him ‘crap shoot’ because that is what he was. Casino would talk to you, I know that sounds unbelievable but anyone who spent time with him understands what I am saying. He answered questions with a nod or a look. He had the most expressive face I had ever seen.
Casino had the spirit of a war pony and never gave up. He stunned us all and gave us 2 ½ months of his company. His final gift to us was spending Christmas here. He lived his life with us on his terms and on his terms he left us.
Shelly and I spent time with him before the vet arrived. He was brushed, massaged, and given all the love that we could pack into the time we had left. The sun came out and he got to spend one more afternoon doing what he loved, soaking up the rays. The vet gave him one last check-up and told us that Casino was shutting down. Casino made it clear to us that he was ready to go and as hard as it was to do so there was a peace in knowing we were granting his wish. The vet said she had never seen a horse like him before, one with so much heart and fight. As Casino left us, as much as it broke all our hearts (even the vet fought back tears) we knew that it was the right thing to do.
We couldn’t have asked for anything more of this little horse. He came into our lives and taught us the true meaning of compassion and love. He gave us a feeling of peace whenever we were around him. His face was beautiful and so loving. He took joy in everything around him. Casino came and gave us the best he had, for that we are forever changed.
He is the best thing that has happened to us, it is hard to explain the magic in this little guy to people-I believe that there was something so special about this horse, he was more than a horse he was a special soul who spent some time making us better people
Casino has placed his last bet, the dealer saw and raised him. The little gambler has folded his cards and left the table. He has joined my grandfather and will be waiting for me when it is my turn.
Rest in peace happy little Buddha horse-we love you
