Tuesday, April 7th... You can go crazy trying to figure out these horse liability laws. We have been bringing home our foster horses, mostly because Tbfriends would be liable if there is an accident.
Our foster parents have been generous beyond description. Opening their doors and hearts to horses who belong to Tbfriends. Allowing us much needed breathing room on our ranch. Homes in Vacaville, Dixon, Orangevale, Loomis, Lincoln, Auburn, Colfax, Winters, Clear Lake, Danville, Lodi, Patterson, Tracy, Marin County, Carson City, Dunnigan, Davis, and Woodland. Families who said sure, we can feed one of your horses. Or 4 of your horses. Or like the family in Clear Lake, 6 of your horses.
Each morning you wake up, there is a new insurance liability law in California. You need a degree in reading the fine print to stay on top of things.
Talk about crowded. We are shoulder to shoulder, hock to hock. Toss a carrot in the air, it comes down on a horse.
We said goodbye to Easter, and we hardly got to know him. Easter was recently rescued by nice folks inside a chat room. Still with his racing shoes, Easter now belongs to a student at Sacramento State. Easter gets one year of rest on green grass, and then next spring he goes to a lesson barn in Davis. A big Thank You to Jennifer for making all the arrangements.
It is Tuesday, and they say 50 percent chance of rain. Which sounds like half. Our ranch should be declared a disaster area. Poop on top of poop. Weeds reaching the moon. An old fence post ready to topple. Yesterday we had baby flies. Bees. Wasps. A brand new long legged spider above the barn door, and he waved hello. Billions of mosquitoes. Birds building new nests. Crickets. Toads or frogs, I can never tell the difference. Peacocks down the street announcing another day has ended. Moths so big each one should have his own name. A young fox comes close. Owls with their late night conversations.
Chores are forever, and time to get started. Enjoy your American Idol Tuesday, and be sure to hug your horses. Simon & Garfunkel on the oldies station...
