Tuesday, April 14th...I am late to go look at horses, which is not unusual, and only half my ranch has been fed. A chilly Tuesday morning, and there is a shopping opportunity with horse killer Kevin Lewis. His exact words: I have a multitude of nice horses. They are transported to slaughter in Mexico later today.
The other half of my ranch is wondering why did that old man go inside to enjoy hot coffee from Peets, with just the right amount of praline cream? Is that him through the horse goober stained window sitting at a computer? Where is our breakfast? Difficult to find good service these days.
So I still have to feed the south and east fields. Turn injured horses from the second barn outside to enjoy sunshine. Remove leg wraps. A syringe of bute for Fractious Child. Dogs waiting for their morning biscuits. Later there is 3 hours of employment at another ranch. Today I stack hay, which is always a thrill. My boss says maybe she should get someone younger. All these years of service, and now she wants to replace me with The Jonas Brothers.
I wanted to tell you Devil Badgett left us yesterday to live 5 miles away with Jenny Hartman. Jenny has loved Badge since he first arrived from the race track two years ago. She and her boyfriend Jeremy built a special stall just for Badge.
I also wanted to tell you the old gelding Guthrie found a new home in Sacramento. An arranged marriage. Guthrie living the good life with his new wife Star. The old gal Star recently lost her long time companion, and when Guthrie arrived she squealed in joy. Off together they hobbled as the sun went down.
Time to bring breakfast to the rest of this silly ranch. Enjoy your American Idol Tuesday, and be sure to hug your horses. The Beach Boys on the oldies station...
