Does anyone have an idea of the "standard training rate" right now? I know prices vary depending on feed, board, etc...but I'm thinking of sending Rocco to a trainer to help with his poll-shyness and I'd like someone fairly close. I haven't used a trainer in years, so I have no idea what they cost. Anyone know:
1. A good trainer in Oregon?
2. The rates?
This trainer MUST be natural, (no heavy, forceful hands) and must understand rescue horses and their special issues. I would like to be allowed to watch some, if not all, training sessions.

Lisanne I would say if the trainer would not let you watch and or join in I would not use them. I have had my mare to two trainers. One to start her and that trainer tried very hard to make me part of the training let me ride when she felt it was safe. The other trainer I used over the summer let me do as much or as little as I wanted. Most of the time I did all the riding and took a lesson and she did the canter work. Wish I know someone in Oregon. Brenda

I used Randall Davis to work with Wind Dancer. He was exactly what it sounds you are looking for. Check him out at www.Davishorsetraining.comHe is Oregon. I went and watched him at a clinic, then decided to use him. He is patient and kind. He makes the horse want to do the right thing for you. He has trained everything from mustangs to warmbloods. I very much recommend him. He also likes to have you involved in the training.

My cousin was asking me last week about training rates!
What rates do you pay?

I don't know about trainers in Oregon. Nikki's trainer in Idaho charges $675.00 per month and works her tail off. A trainer that a rescue uses who is out of Ellensburg is $700.00 per month.

My cousin was asking what the hourly rate was. She's willing to take one of mine and work her BUTT OFF for a month (she probably won't charge me), but she wanted to know because she was going to train a couple of other horses. Now that it is cooling down here, she can start training again. Summers are just TOO HOT!!
