Ok, here are our "must do now" marching orders:
1. Never use the term "unwanted". It is a term the pro-slaughter folks use as their number one talking point and every lobbying effort and letter asks the question, "what are we going to do with all the unwanted horses". Replace "unwanted" with "unlucky" or "discarded unnecessarily" or some other similar term.
2. We must now refer to ourselves as "pro-horse" as opposed to the other side being referred to as "pro-slaughter". This is very important as it points out that pro-slaughter is ANTI-horse then.
3. The most important thing we can do right now is talk talk talk to everyone we know.
4. The second most important thing we can do right now is make an appointment to see our US Reps and Senators. We must sit across the table from them and say simply, "Horse Slaughter must end now and I want to know I have your support in that cause."

Great points bryn! I have a friend who writes for whoisisabella an online womens publication and she wants to do an article about horse slaughter, of course she is pro-horse. She did an article on blood diamonds and turned a true diamond-aholic pro-pearl LOL. She is an awesome writer so when she finally has time in her job to do research I may need some help finding it all.

Now is a great time to do your research on your state's US Reps and US Senators. Get the list of those who were re-elected and those who are new. They should obviously be treated differently when it comes time to write and call. From the list of those re-elected, mark which ones were co-sponsors of 503 the last time. Mark which ones voted for 503 when it came up for a full vote. Do the same for the Senate (of course minus the full vote stuff because there was no vote). I will try to post the lists here when I have a few more minutes.
In addition, pull up the list of members of the Commerce committees in both the House and the Senate. Do the same for the Ag committee and see which elected officials from your state serve on each. Mark whether they are new, re-elected, pro the bill last time or not. These lists will also come in handy later.
We must be an educated pro-horse voice. Let's start doing our homework now.
