Saturday, May 2nd... Poor horses are confused. Their hairy coats gone, but suddenly winter has returned. Cold and rainy. Horses stand and shiver, giving me grumpy looks. Like the weather is my fault.
On Wednesday at Golden Gate Fields, jockey Bobby Gonzalez broke his neck. Also his ankle. A good guy, we have known Bobby for more than 20 years. Why they race two year olds at this time of year remains a mystery. Their bones not even developed. The baby filly Bobby was riding is now dead. We wish Bobby all the best in his recovery.
In 2008, Tbfriends rescued 9 two year old race horses. All 9 seriously injured.
On a much happier note, I naturally left out several names when giving thanks yesterday. Found another sheet of paper in this mess we call an office. Sorry you were overlooked.
A big Thank You to Wendy Wainwright. Kelly Bonds, no relation to Barry. Wylie Carter, no relation to Jimmy. Heather Knowles. Tori Baze. Tobi Geter. Mark & Linda Davis. Brad & Carinda from Santa Cruz. Eric & Stacey from Citrus Heights.
A big Thank You to Shirley Hansen. To our front gate Shirley brought 20 bags of Equine Senior. It was great to finally meet her.
Tbfriends is currently feeding a tad over 200 horses a day. Always liked that word. Tad. Been waiting for a chance to use it.
A big Thank You to Michelle in El Sobrante. All you do for race horses.
A big Thank You to Dee in Marin. Taking care of 3 older geldings once owned by Tbfriends.
On this gray Saturday morning, they say more rain coming. Hot coffee from Peets. Microwave waffles with extra maple syrup made by Eggo. Debbie Boone on the oldies station. Enjoy your feels like January Saturday, and be sure to hug your horses. Chores are forever...
