This beautiful girl shed out and looks so glamorous that she needed a more fitting name than Shaggie. So, here is Shaggie's (re-named Ginger because she looks like a movie star - LOL) new look. I included a few old pictures just for fun. Ginger is a wonderful and kind mare who also happens to be very well trained under saddle. She is 15 hands and 1100 lbs. She is easy to catch, leads perfectly, ties, loads, bathes, and gets along great with other horses. She is currently a companion horse for a crippled gelding. She stands politely for the vet and farrier, and is doing great barefoot. Under saddle, she is very responsive and light to reins and leg cues. She will back and sidepass, and does a pretty good rendition of a roll back. I was amazed at how soft she was, and I rode her in just a halter with the lead looped around for a rein. Ginger has tested positive for Cushing's Disease (similar to Diabetes in humans). She requires no medications for her condition, but she will need to be kept off of sweet feed and grain. I had no idea I was such a Beauty Queen! This is my best side. It shows off my blond highlights. Now, for my close-up. Whoa.........what was in that mash last night! This is me sidepassing. See.......I told you I am a classy girl! My "working" trot........I'm trotting, and it is work. Copyright 2007 Sunny Acres Ranch. All rights reserved.

Ginger will be heading to Ellensburg, WA on Saturday, July 21st for Rodeo City Equine Rescue's Tack Swap and Horse Adoptathon Event at the Kittitas Fairgrounds. Hope to see you there!
We were hoping to make an appearance at the SAFE Show on July 28th, but it doesn't look like we will probably make it that weekend.

Ginger made her first public appearance yesterday at Rodeo City Equine Rescue's Tack Swap & Adoptathon event. I had not taken her out to any events yet, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. She did excellent! So good in fact, I think she would be a perfect horse for someone who is looking for a first "show horse" to learn on.
She loaded perfectly in the trailer for the ride both ways. She stood tied to the trailer and never pawed or pulled back, even though there were horses around her that did. Once mounted, we stood in the midst of all the activity quiet and on a loose rein. We walked through the tack booths looking at all the scary signs, flags, etc and Ginger was practically bored. One booth owner asked her if she wanted to do some shopping, and at that precise moment, Ginger shook her head in a very emphatic NO! We all laughed and I said I better let her move along so she can see something she wants to look at.
We went through the sale parade and she backed softly, side passed, and did a cute western jog. She had children and all sorts of people walking up to her and petting her throughout the day. She was polite and kind to every one of them.
It really makes me wonder what her career was, because she took everything in stride yesterday. I am so proud of her!

Update: My niece came to visit for the weekend and she is as horse-crazy as I was at her age. Riding a horse was very high on the priority list for things to accomplish while she was here. Ginger was chosen, and Kristie got to feel what a super smooth trot feels like. Here are some pictures: Copyright Sunny Acres Ranch - All rights reserved.

Update: Ginger had her teeth done by a Certified Equine Dentist this week. He said her mouth is still in good shape and 22-23 yrs old is on target. So, he thought she still has many good years left too.

Ginger went to a Kiddie Day Camp last week for Spring Break. Several of the children loved Ginger! The little girl riding her looked me in the eyes and told me "This is a GOOD horse." ;D Here are some pictures of Ginger at Day Camp: On a very happy note - Ginger has finally found her forever home!

Here is Ginger doing her new job...she is taking over for Salty teaching Dakota how to ride. She is so soft mouthed and responsive, she makes it very clear to Dakota if he is not being soft enough and she does exactly what he asks-so he is learning to ask for what he wants very clearly. Getting on Some advice on getting her going Busy teaching one little boy to be a good horseman Dakota has always liked Ginger, he thinks she is beautiful. We are glad that she was still available when he was ready to move up to a higher level for his riding lessons.
