Sherry called me Friday night and told me this amazing story. I was completely blown away. I told Sherry that the universe was definitely conspiring to get that mare back where she belonged.
This version of the story is written by a friend of Hytyme, Ashley.
"Do you ever wonder how a day can go by totally normal and then in one instant it can be the best day of your life.....and everyone else around you??
Here is one such story......
It all started one day with a phone call to Sherry and Jim from Heidi, "This horse is great. Please save her the truck is coming".....little did we know what was about to transpire.
Heidi was right she was beautiful. She came home and was a nice looking gal, hairy from winter but nice looking none the less.
Fast Forward two years later. I am surfing around Craigslist and see an ad for a gentleman who is looking for a horse, I email him like I do everyone else, he names a couple he likes but is so busy with work he can't come look right now. I give him Jim's email address and the Hytyme web site for more information and think nothing of it.
Today, a typical day taking care of horses, going to work, someone is coming to look at the horses. Jim, Sherry and I talk about the nice guy coming to see the horses.....it never dawns on me it is the same guy. They had done the site check the day prior and all was good.
He comes out and is very knowledgeable, it all seems like a typical adoption, he looks at Reba and decides to adopt her, that is excellent. Then he decides to go into the pasture to look at Abby and maybe adopt her....BONUS but still seems typical....until it happens.
He comes back smiling ear to ear and Sherry and I are intrigued......he asks about the mare in the pasture with the KO brand on her shoulder. We tell him that is Yuma, she is a quarter horse rescued from the feedlot and is broke to ride, she came to the lot with shoes on. I tell him I researched her brand but found nothing.....he says "I know that brand." Now we are super intrigued as he goes to the pasture to catch Yuma to look her over, we are still unaware we are about to witness a miracle.
The gentleman comes back with Yuma in tow. He explains to us this......"her name is not Yuma, her name is Doc O'lena's Jill or Jill for short, she is a champion steer wrestling horse and I won my 3rd collegiate championship on her, she is 7 years old"
You could have knocked us over with a feather. He looked like he had seen a ghost!
He explained that he thought Jill was dead, a friend of his owned her and he tried to sell her for a big sum of money, but no one would buy her. Her owner then ran her through the auction in the meat section and was positive that she had been canned. He was just sick about it thinking Jill had gone to the canner at the hands of his friend.
After meeting his old friend Jill again I would say there was no way that you could have wiped the smile off his face as he loaded her and Reba in the trailer in route to their new home.
I don't think the smiles are wiped off our faces as well, we had just witnessed a miracle and we knew it! It is amazing that these horses thrown away by people so heartlessly, make it full circle to the place they belong. A turn of events can change the lives of many people along the way, a phone call, a rescue, an email, a drive, a respect, a reunion and a peace in knowing all is right with the world for the moment."
