Aww, and there was my little Clover waiting next to the trailer while you loaded her! Clover is going out on trial for a month...cross your fingers! I am actually concerned she may be a little too much for the kid but she has an instructor and an indoor arena, so that's good. Clover doesn't do anything bad, she just does not want to walk and spins on a dime when you turn her. I may have rescued the world's only hot-potato 30 year old.

Freedom is a royal poop !!!! Actually sometime in his life he must have been in charge of new calves or ones removed from their mom. There was a brand new calf at the ranch this morning when I arrived...Freedom was standing guard over the little thing. It was trying to nurse off him and he didn't even care I went out to move Freedom because the calf needed to get to its mom and that is when the fun began Usually I can just toss my spare work shirt over his neck and he will follow me-no dice today, he dug in his hooves and stood his ground. So I swatted his butt and tried to shoo him off-that resulted in a look of pure disdain and he wasn't moving. All the cows started gathering around, the mom was getting desperate and Freedom stood like a soldier guarding the fort-a little calf camped out underneath him. When Freedom moved the calf moved, the calf moved and Freedom would move...poor calf was sure Freedom was his mom. I had to go get a halter and put it on the old guy-remember he is somewhere between 30 and 40- and try to lead him in. He snorted, danced, and screamed as I worked him back to the barn. Getting him to the barn involved lunging him in a circle while slowly moving away from the calf and to the barn-we covered a good three acres doing that, by the end I was dizzy and felt like a top Finally got him in a paddock and he spent the next hour running the length of it, screaming for the calf, and raising a stink. It was the silliest and sweetest thing I had ever seen-a grown male horse playing nurse maid to a newly born calf. Freedom won't be allowed out with the cows until the calving is done and the little guys are certain who their moms are. It is nice to know that he has such a caring nature and at one time had done such a fine job taking care of little guys. We could give him Hytyme's Lady Bean to guard-but then the poop probably won't let us near her and we are having to get her used to being handled and touched everywhere. Anyone have a cow that needs babysitting-he is really upset

Freedom has been put in with Lady Bean this evening. He hasn't gotten over having to give the calf back to its mom...he hasn't eaten, keeps pacing, watches the calf constantly, and is giving out whinnies. When I put his halter on he headed for the gate that lead into the cows and was not thrilled when he found out that wasn't where he was headed. We put him in with Lady and he promtly ignored her....she was doing the baby mouth at him (being a bit nasty and pinning her ears at the same time) "I'm the baby, gotta love me and my attitude" Freedom gently showed her he wasn't taking any attitude. He laid down in the sand to roll but got himself stuck when he discovered he can't heft his big old butt up when he is trying to get up uphill-Shelly lent him a helping hand. Poor old guy, lost his baby, won't eat, and now he needs a 'help I've fallen and I can't get up' panic button. He did eat his mush-if only not to share with Lady-this evening. Hopefuly everything will settle down soon.

Well Freedom has quit calling to the calf and is eating...if for no other reason than to keep it from Lady. He is a bit crabby with her and has not buddied up like we had hoped, but she seems to have settled him down a bunch. Lady Bean and Dakota have been working with the Mickey Hand and she is doing well. She has issues with being handled when she has her treats (she kicked me Friday and discovered that mom will kick her little bottom right back). We have started over with her to make sure she gets used to being touched all over in a manner that is safe for everyone. Dakota has a 7ft length of PVC pipe that is 1 inch in diameter with a stuffed white knit glove taped to the end of it. He stands outside of the paddock and rubs it all over her while she eats her treats. Lady has progressed from kicking and running off to the grand stage of standing even after the food is gone and letting you rub her all over. Another week of that behavior and we will move to standing in the paddock and using the Mickey hand. She and Dakota are learning a lot together...she comes over to him for pets and ear rubs. I am pleased with both of them and it is fun to watch them learn together.

Freedom, you're a good guy. I've never seen a horse do that. Hopefully he'll have to train LB to be a good little horse. Guess his taste is just a little different than most horses! LB is so cute with that big hand rubbing her all over. I wonder what they think. What would happen if it got too close to her food?

She is okay with the hand close to her food. In fact today while she was eating we gave her scratches with the plastic hay fork. She had her ears forward, was looking around, and stayed very relaxed...she is doing really well!

Is there something wrong with my computer or are all the pictures gone from here? I was going to check on the BB.

I don't see the pics either. Maybe she just rearranged her photo account and hasn't redone the links yet.

We were out with the horses this morning and my husband found Freedom's itchy spot. It was a riot to see Freedom try and scratch himself like a dog He got a 1/2 hour of scratches and brushing-he still wanted more. This old guy is the bomb! Here is Panik with a fly mask on for the very first time, she was a trooper about it. I am glad to see that her trust in us continues to grow, she let me put it on with no problem-last year's attempt involved some rearing, kicking, and just plain running for all she was worth (needless to say we never got one on her). She is turning into a love of a horse Here is Mo with his rhythm beads on and wearing his sporty plaid fly mask. We brushed everyone and cleaned feet, it was a good day.

Hi All, Well mom has sent me to heaven!!! Mo and I got moved to a pasture that has belly deep grass-not only that but there is my beloved Alfalfa sprinkled throughout the place!!! Mom says only limited time on the pasture and then into the paddock to rest....she must know it is there, but just in case I'm not telling. Mo and I are hanging out with three new horses. The mares think I'm cool which is upsetting their gelding. Mo on the other hand just wants to race the other OTTB that is out there-that works for me I get the mares and the Alfalfa. The rest of the herd is grand. Hank and Panik are getting used to not being together. Panik is taking lessons on how to be mellow from Freedom. Hytyme's Lady Bean is turning into a beautiful young lady-I put my dibs on her (Quelo just doesn't know it yet) Well that is the big news...I have gotten to the Alfalfa garden of Eden Have a great week Salty The Wonder Horse
