You go, Freedom. Keep those cows in line and herded into the right section of the pasture. Every guy needs a job. Memories from your past, maybe? Spring is a comin'. . .even old farts will soon be running and playing. Life is good.

Freedom was camped out in the pasture on the hay pile this morning. He watches the cows eat and moves a few of them to different spots. It was really a treat to watch this old guy doing his 'job'. I had to whistle and call for him for a bit to get him to come and eat his breakfast (I was running late because I am not feeling well today). Freedom is just as wonderful as they come, he is one of the ranch favorites.....okay all the horses are ranch favorites-just for different reasons.

Freedom has a new buddy, a little black yearling calf. They hang out together and Freedom will even let it share his food on occasion. It is fun to see. Hank and Panik have an appointment with the farrier next week-we will have to catch them first. Salty has finally realized the Shaggie is the boss-he gets to stand where she lets him...another well trained male Mo is working on his independent dressage skills, doing cantering pirouettes in the paddock and high stepping trotting antics. The biggest news is that when Baby Bean is weaned she will join our family. Melissa will be heading to Hytyme, we are hoping that there are more people in Oregon that are interested in a little Arab pony than there are in Washington. Dakota and BB will get to grow up together and be long time friends. That is the news from Grumpy Old Horse Ranch where not all the horses are old and Freedom is the only one that is grumpy.

Well it was a beautiful day at the ranch, the sun was shining and there was no wind. We re-flagged the hot wire getting it ready for Mo's big move. Horses were shuffled around to help him get ready. Mo moved to the big paddock that Shaggie and Salty shared. Shaggie is such a good and patient girl, she will be the perfect mentor for Mo in his next step to being a herd horse. He hasn't been in with other horses before-so this is new. He was very excited about the space-running, bucking, kicking, and snorting ;D. He ran around so much he worked up a sweat. He stood nose to nose with Shaggie and then invaded her space a bit too much, she made it very clear to him that he needed to respect her space . Shaggie was so gentle with Casino I am sure that she will be fine with Mo. Melissa and Salty were moved into a pasture together. Salty immediately started showing off-Hank and Panik are across the way and can now get a full view of his antics. He was busy showing off all his cool moves , Hank and Panik could care less. Melissa is enjoying having company, she has been alone for two months and is ready for a friend. She was prancing around with her nose and tail up in the air. It will be fun to watch the two showoffs together-Salty the Wonder Horse and Queen Melissa. Freedom is back in his paddock next to Stowie and they both seem happy with that. He will head back out to pasture once we get all the spring cleaning done. That is the news from Grumpy Old Horse Ranch where not all the horses are old and Freedom is the only one that is grumpy.

Aw, I LOVE Mo, Bertrando's are the best. I have two Officer (son of Bertrando) fillies and they are the greatest. I'm so glad Mo is adapting to "real horse" life.

agilitygal we are not getting Vanilla Bean, we are getting Baby Bean. Dakota and BB formed a bond when we went down to help at Hytyme's, Dakota spent a bunch of time brushing, hugging, and petting BB. Dakota thought we should bring BB home with us. We got home and Dakota wanted to sponsor BB-so we thought about it for a long time and decided it would be good for Dakota to be around a younger horse, one that he could train (while learning himself), one he can keep for a long time.

Yesterday we went and picked up BB. She loaded like an old pro and made the ride back to the ranch like a champ. She is a delightful little lady and is going to be so much fun to work with-Dakota hasn't seen her yet, he spent the night at his big sister's house and will be home this evening....boy will he be surprised! Everyone at Hytyme's has worked very hard to help this little horse become inprinted to people-she has none of her mother's fear of human's, in fact she loves to be hugged, scratched, and to have attention. Nice work you guys! Here are Baby Bean photos from yesterday. Getting her new halter on for the ride home- Look out Salty I am on my way and I am cool too! Loading like a champ, she went straight in like a good girl... Tucked in late in the evening...she had an adventure and was still as sweet as could be... BB is so pretty, she has flaxen streaks in her tail and blonde on her belly. Thanks Hytyme for entrusting us with this very special little girl...we know that if you hadn't been there she probaly never would have been born...she is truly blessed by your touch.

Dakota has changed BB's name-he said she won't be a baby forever so her new name is Hytyme'e Lady Bean. Dakota plans on calling her Lady, he picked this name so he would always remember the people who helped her and BB would remember her mom. They spent 1/2 hour this evening cuddling and Dakota brushed every inch of her and got her to eat grain out of his hand. So far they have had a wonderful two days, I warned him that babies sometimes do funny things and not everyday will be perfect-he doesn't believe me. The rest of the herd is grand and the weather is lovely....hope all of you are having as much fun with your horses as we are. That is the news from Grumpy Old Horse Ranch, where not all the horses are old and Freedom is the only one who is grumpy.

What a fantastic story, from the rescue of Vanilla Bean, to her foaling, to the debut of the ultra-stylish Hytyme's Lady Bean! Please tell Dakota that he not only has a knack for talking to horses, but he clearly has a knack for naming them as well! I'm so happy for him that he'll have a buddy for many years to come. Thank you so much for allowing all of us to live your experiences vicariously.
