Today at Grumpy Old Horse Ranch was a nice start to the new year. The horses are all healthy, happy, and frisky. Salty continues to stand perched on the feedbunk so he can look down at Quelo. He thinks that he is the boss of Shaggie, but she quietly gets him to move by just plodding ahead and ignoring him. Freedom Dancer is still so happy to get his mush and scratchies each day. I read Cherie's thread on sheath cleaning and thought back about when Freedom first came to the ranch. Boy he has straw and mud-all kinds of gross stuff up there. He was such a good boy about being cleaned, good thing because it was more than I was ready for ;D Hank and Panik continue to be such good friends. They have both settled down now and Dakota can go in and out of the pasture without me worrying whether he will get run over or not. Melissa is definetly not the horse that they said she was. She is gentle and loving, wanting to follow you everywhere. She is so glad when Dakota comes and waits patiently for her treats. Tonight she gave him a nuzzle before she dug in. This year has brought us many new friends and we have seen the passing of treasured members of our family. Through it all the love of our horses continues to be our greatest treasure. That is the news from Grumpy Old Horse Ranch, where not all the horses are old and Freedom is the only one who is grumpy.

This weekend found all the horses well and happy. Melissa loves to be scratched an brushed. She will nibble on your shirttails while you groom her and follow you when you try and quit. Salty is a bit stiff with the cooler weather, so we are adding back his anti-inflammatory. Freedom is busy guarding the water from the cows He takes delight in harassing the little guys. Hank and Panik are still the dynamic duo. Hank loves it when you blow in his nose-weird. That is the news from Grumpy Old Horse Ranch where not all the horses are old and Freedom is the only one who is grumpy

Thanks to Vada at Rodeo City Equine Rescue along with Marisa and Teresa Brooke of MT Horses in Oregon a new horse will be joining our herd. These ladies made arrangements to save him from ending up in a kill pen Drumo is an eight-year-old TB who is traveling to us from California. Dakota is going to call him Mo. This horse has an old injury to his rear leg, so we will be working on rehabbing his leg to get it back to as close to a normal range of motion as possible. We are told that he is a gently horse and good with children. Once he has fully recovered it looks like he will be a grand 4-H horse. He should be arriving on Monday via FARAWAY RANCH & TRANSPORT. He is a dark horse, I am excited to see that Dakota is feeling comfortable with dark brown horses ;D A big thank you to the three ladies for saving him and to the transport company who is bringing him home. The rest of the horses will be surprised to see a new horse arriving. Wait until the vet gets a call to come and see our new rescue, only to arrive at the ranch and see a horse that isn't old, sick, or in such bad physical shape that she wonders what we are thinking-it could send her into shock

I already checked on that, he wears an 82-84 blanket, I have one that size already. I will pick up a couple more and a couple of fleece liners too...a reason to shop ;D I am pleased to see Dakota expanding his horizons as far as horse colors-Noelle has a lot to do with that, Dakota thought she was pretty.

pnp4kidz, I don't know who has him right now-he is being placed through mthorses on the bb-she knows where he is currently at and his entire history. My understanding is that the owner leased him out and that placement turned a bit ugly, the owner pulled him back and has him boarded (I believe the owner has not seen him in over a year), the three ladies have stepped in to prevent him from ending up in a kill pen-which is where he was headed if they didn't get him placed immediately.

The truck is coming!!!! It will be here Monday...... Hank has a new trick. Every morning when we come in he will be standing by the driveway with his head stretched way out over the fence. He wants you to stop the car, get out, come around and give him a kiss and blow up his nose. It is just too funny...if you try to drive by he will try to whap the car with his head and then stomp. Hank loves to have his nose tickled. He also likes to check out every pocket you have on the off chance there is something good in there. Freedom loves kisses and pushing his forehead against yours. I just love the appys they have the greatest personalities. Well all our horses have great personalities, but these two are just so darn entertaining.

I love it when they seek attention. It always makes me feel loved, even if they do just want treats!
