Yep and Mo will be 'living the life of Riley'. Hanging out in a barn, wondering around the pasture, and looking at the great view! I am really lucky that Shelly has such great facilities. Grumpy Old Horse Ranch is what we call our horses that we have, we board our horses at Shelly's ranch. It is a great place becuase you can tailor your boarding package to meet each horses needs. Mo is going to need a more intensive care package, so that is what he will get-shelter, free choice bluegrass hay, supplements, checked on 5 times a day and any support services he needs. Check out her website www.sunnyacresranch.com/I know this sounds like an ad, but I wanted people to know that 'Grumpy Old Horse Ranch' is really just my herd of horses who board at Shelly's

Well the day was spent cleaning and fussing with the horses. The vet was out and I had her check Freedom's eyes, he has 'moom blindness' but is still seeing well-the sun bothers him so he is now sporting a uv shield/fly mask. Mo (Drumo) arrived this afternoon-boy is he a big boy an honest 17.1 hands high. He made the trip from Cali in fine shape-Far and away haulers did a grand job with him. He is gentle and very interested in being in his outside paddock. He has a stall available to him, but that is where he has spent his entire life. The past two years he has been taken out of his stall for about 15 minutes daily for a walk. He will be spending the next few weeks learning what it is to be a horse. When he first arrived and busy checking out everything. Here he is sporting his new coat He played in the sawdust and investigated everything. The vet was going to check him out today-but recieved an emergency call, so she will see him tomorrow. Here is his pedegree: www.pedigreequery.com/drumoMo's old owners hadn't seen him in two years, the ladies who worked at the boarding stables have been paying for his hoof trimming and supplements out of their own pockets (bless them). Mo was to be sent to a kill pen (his owners were tired of paying his boarding fee), the people who took care of him convinced his owners to allow him to be placed in a home instead. Two rescues worked together to get him to a safe haven. It is a shame to see such a finely breed horse, one with a loving personality get thrown away. I want to thank Mt. Horses and Rodeo City Equine Rescue for saving him from slaughter. A special thank you goes out to his angels at the boarding facility for taking such fine care of him. We are looking forward to seeing what a fine horse this guy turns into.

I'm going to be putting up a thread for Sunny Acres Ranch soon, and I'll be sure to update Stowie and all his friends at the ranch. Syndi does such a good job of updating her horses that I'll leave it to her to keep the updates coming for them.
Her new horse that arrived today is WOW! It was so shocking to finally get a horse at the ranch that wasn't sick, lame, or starved that as we stood there admiring the new arrival, we both had tears in our eyes. Then we started laughing because it seems so ridiculous to cry over a horse that looks so wonderful. We are just so tickled to have him there!
Mo is the biggest horse on the ranch, but definitely one of the most gentle. He was so precious as he looked around trying to take everything in. I think he must feel like he has entered a whole new world. He seems very sound minded and sensible though, so I'm sure he is going to adjust easily. Syndi and I both decided he is going to be our "fun" project. ;D

This morning was an early one at the ranch. I didn't sleep much wondering if Mo was okay, bad habit left from dealing with our really sick ones. We pulled up at 5:45 to be greeted by four horse heads poking over their respective pastures. Hank and Pankic were busy talking to Mo and Mo was busy trying to make friends with Babe Ruth over the fence. Melissa was off in the distance munching her hay-after all she is the queen and doesn't take too much interest in the serfs at the ranch. It was the first time Dakota met Mo-he couldn't believe how big he is. Dakota fed him his grain, Mo reached down and gave him a nuzzle to tell him thank you. Freedom and Salty are both doing well. Freedom was out of his pasture yesterday, led on his weekly tour of the rest of the horses-he snorts and shows off to all of them (he is the best old guy). Salty has informed everyone that Mo is not all that cool, well maybe a bit cool, but that he will never hold a candle to the Wonder Horse so he might as well get used to it. Mo has started treatment for ulcers and has been put on extensive supplements for his joints (Shelly is overseeing that end of it). Tonight he will go for a walk around a bigger pasture, just to get him used to the idea that there is alot of space to wonder when he is ready. We are ever so greatful to the horses who have come before him, they taught us so very much and made us better people-all of their love and knowledge will help us help Mo. It is nice to know that Annie the race horse and Casino the gambler are watching over Mo-they will teach him joy and guard him in his new life. Just an aside-if you look at Mo's pedigree and see the names of his former owners I want you to know that it is our understanding that these were his original owners, not the ones who owned him when his life went sideways-I wouldn't want people thinking bad things about the people listed there.

I love that last picture of Stowie. So expressive! I saved it to my folder of favorite horse pictures.
Hey Syndi, Casino and Annie didn't waste any time sending you the new kid, eh? He's a beauty, and I'm sure as his personality emerges you'll find he's beautiful through and through. It's what your angel horses would wish for you and Dakota.

Forgot to ask: does Stowie have a little notch in his right ear? Looks like an overly ambitious love bite! ;D

I believe that Stowie does have a little notch in his ear. Shelly is the Stowie expert, he is one of the lucky boarders at Sunny Acres Ranch, I do know that he is available to the right home. He would make a great companion horse and one that grandkids can love on. You can crawl all around him-he has a mellower personality than Salty's.

Yes, Stowie does have a little notch in his ear. I guess it could be a love bite wound. The guy is so sweet that he doesn't even know how to pin his ears at other horses. Who couldn't love this darling boy. He is available and free to the perfect home.
